Peter and Ruth Althaus established Domaine A in 1989. Using the first letter of their surname in the new name, they purchased Stoney Vineyard and renamed it. Today Domaine A is owned and operated by Moorilla Estate.
Planted in 1973 the original Stoney Vineyard is the oldest in Tasmania's Coal River Valley. Set in a pristine natural environment, it lies on a north facing slope that enjoys a temperate maritime climate. Some of the longest sunshine hours in Australia ensure the grapes ripen to develop their full varietal character. The vineyard is close planted with a density of 6,000 vines per hectare.
Domaine A make benchmark Tasmanian wines, the product of meticulous vineyard practice. Domaine A Cabernet and Lady A Sauvignon Blanc take the lead. The Stoney Vineyard label brands the lower tier releases.
